The canvas represents the moment when the spanish troops in denmark under the orders of the marquis of la romana, pedro caro y sureda, were preparing to embark towards spain. They were there to protect denmark, which was an ally of napoleon, while awaiting the order to invade sweden, an operation that was never carried out.
