According to ovid in the metamorphoses, narcissus fell so much in love with his unattainable image that he died of grief over it. The image was alienated by circumcision. In the 19th century, the androgynous youth was transformed into a saint catherine with the wheel by a few overpaintings. These overpaintings have now been removed. Object Type: painting.
