Max Liebermann von Ernst Ludwig Kirchner 1926, Max Liebermann

Max Liebermann von Ernst Ludwig Kirchner 1926, Max Liebermann

Painting (black and white reproduction) of max liebermann by ernst ludwig kirchner in 1926, "max liebermann in his studio", gordon no. 840. One of three paintings in the series: 1. Thomas mann in a suit - with hands in his pockets in 1900 - the year he created buddenbrooks 2. Gerhart hauptmann in the same pose in 1912 - the year he received the nobel prize, 3. Max liebermann in the same pose in 1926 - painted by ernst ludwig kirchner in the year thomas mann received the nobel prize for buddenbrooks. Kirchner, who represents davos, was previously a patient in dr. Oskar kohnstamm's sanatorium, where thomas mann's novel 'the magic mountain' was set. Lucius griesebach analyses kirchner's concept of the hieroglyph. He proves that, contrary to kirchner's statement, this term had already been introduced into art history by max liebermann before him. Lucius griesebach was the grandson of dr. Lucius spengler. He in turn was the son of dr. Alexander spengler, who founded the schatzalp sanatorium - actually "schutzalp" - in davos. Reason = the juxtaposition of three pictures points to cross-references between fine art and literature at this time. Object Type: painting. Date: 1926.
