Three Horses in a Field, Pieter van Laer, 1636

Three Horses in a Field, Pieter van Laer, 1636

A group of three plow horses. One of them, seen from three quarters, is directed to the left, the second, a little further away, is turned to the same side, and seen almost from behind, the third, even further away, is directed to the right and seen from three quarters; he is hidden by the other two, so that we only see the top of his head, a little of his side and some parts of his legs. A cad seen from behind is seated on the ground, to the left of the print, near a tree whose branch extends to the middle of the plate. All these figures are on somewhat elevated ground; and grassy area, beyond which we see in the background, very close to the edge of the right, a small house communicating through a door with a partition which extends in width to the middle of the plank, and beyond which trees and bushes rise. Object Type: etching print. Date: 1636. Place of creation: Rome. Dimensions: height: 12.9 cm (5 in) ; width: 17.6 cm (6.9 in). Medium: engraving and etching print, laid paper. Collection: Collection Voorhelm Schneevoogt. Series Title: Different animals. Drie paarden en een boer. NL-HlmNHA 1477 53009533
