Apotheose der Renaissance, Mihály Munkácsy, 1888

Apotheose der Renaissance, Mihály Munkácsy, 1888

Man entering the magnificent staircase leads the viewer into the picture. In a loggia, the pope, possibly julius ii, can be seen as the greatest patron and supporter of the renaissance. In front of him are some of the most famous painters: at the front left on the landing are leonardo da vinci and raphael, to the right behind the balustrade is michelangelo in a thinking pose. Titian is giving painting lessons and paolo veronese is painting on a scaffold. Above them float personified representations of the fame and honor of the arts - fama and gloria. Date: 1888. Medium: fresco. Collection: Kunsthistorisches Museum. Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna 0170
