Cartoon published on the cover of furnica, the romanian satirical magazine, prompted by a diplomatic incident between the kingdoms of greece and romania. Earlier that month, smr împăratul traian, commanded by captain perieţeanu, had been vandalized by greek civilians while anchored in piraeus; this prompted speculation that greece was playing at war. In this cartoon, a fustanella-wearing george i of greece, dagger in teeth and pistol in hand, leads a band of klephts. Although bent on war, these characters are hard at work controlling their riding beasts, which are giant rabbits. The image was published with a caption, in macaronic language, poking fun at the greek difficulties in pronouncing romanian: zito gheorghios protos, regele nostru ! să puftească rumânii la război, dacă le dă muna: noi suntemo gata ! ("zito georgios protos [i. E. Long live george the first], our king! let's see if de rumunians are really ready to do war: we sure are ready!"). Note: the artist is not credited in the magazine, but is identifiable by the t-with-ring monogram, bottom left. Date: 24 June 1910.
