The canvas represents the farewell of gaius sempronius gracchus (in latin caius sempronius gracchus; 154 bc - 121 bc) from his family. He was a prominent roman populist politician of the 2nd century bc. C. , belonging to one of the richest families in rome, the sempronio graco. He was the son of tiberius sempronius gracchus and cornelia, brother of tiberius sempronius gracchus, and cousin of publius cornelius scipio aemilianus. The political, judicial and economic reforms he undertook led to the assassination of gaius sempronius gracchus and thousands of his supporters in 121 bc. C. Object Type: painting. Date: circa 1858.
