Don Juan's encounter with the stony guest, Max Slevogt, 1906

Don juan stands darkly in front of a glaring light that emphasizes the chaos in the room. Samson (b 438) breaks one of the pillars. Behind him, indistinct shapes appear in the pale coloring of the cardboard. The sparse motif underlines the greatness and loneliness of the protagonist. Slevogt had seen works by eugène delacroix and honoré daumier at the collector and cultural historian eduard fuchs, which made a deep impression on him. (smb, angelika wesenberg). Object Type: painting. Date: 1906. Dimensions: height: 37.2 cm (14.6 in); width: 53.2 cm (20.9 in). Medium: oil on cardboard. Collection: Alte Nationalgalerie. 1906 Slevogt Don Juans Begegnung mit dem steinernen Gast anagoria
