In 1904, the corn exchange bank of chicago had a policy to the effect that employees who earned less than $1,000 / year needed to get permission from management before marrying. Frank sottek portrays a female employee ("leap year girl", referencing the tradition giving women the right, on leap year, to propose marriage to men) objecting to this. Date: 8 March 1904.
