Restoration of notornis mantelli based on a skin of p. Hochstetteri. (in the text mantell mentiones the skull and the sternum from 1847 which is the type speciment of p. Mantelli, mentioned the skin from 1849 which is the type speciment of p. Hochstetteri and a second hochstetteri-skin - the skins and the bones were attributed to the same species, therefore the image depicts a p. Hochstetteri - maybe with the beak of a p. Mantelli, but a sternum doesnt tell enough about the shape of the bird, to influence the outcome). Date: 1879.
