Poor Jack, Robert Dighton, between 1790 and 1791

An illustration of the song 'by mr. Dibdin', which is engraved beneath the title, with the refrain, 'there's a sweet little cherub sits perch'd up aloft to keep watch for the life of poor jack. ' jack stands, looking at the spectator, holding a cane in his right hand, with his left he points up towards the head and wings of a cherub which emerges from clouds in the upper right corner of the design. He wears a round high-crowned hat, his hair, cut across his forehead, falls curling on his shoulders. He has a striped waistcoat with short coat and petticoat.
