Millais painted this portrait of an unknown scottish girl while on holiday in the trossachs in the highlands of scotland. Millais’ extraordinary technical ability is readily apparent in the precise linear rendering of the figure’s hair and clothing, in contrast with the cool, smooth skin of her face. His close observation and detailed rendering of all aspects of the portrait are quintessentially pre-raphaelite. (see references). Object Type: painting. Date: 1854.
