Description the keizersgracht with the westerkerk view over the keizersgracht on the westermarkt with the westerkerk. In the foreground the quay on the odd side of the canal. To the right of the center is the westerkerk, to the right of it, half hidden, the double building keizersgracht 196-198. To the left of the church, almost completely hidden from view, is the westerhal. Preliminary study for two paintings, one of which hung in the churchwarden's room of the westerkerk until 1864.
