Mountainous River Landscape (Night Version), Caspar David Friedrich, between 1830 and 1835

Mountainous River Landscape (Night Version), Caspar David Friedrich, between 1830 and 1835

The elbe landscape near dresden is probably depicted. The theme of the time of day and age, usually conceived in pairs of images, is here united by a double-sided painting of one image. On the side of the morning mood, three figures glide in a boat towards the misty morning sun. The night scene also shows the group of figures in the boat, but now a city is visible in the background as a possible destination of the journey. With numerous towers, it lies, illuminated by the light of the full moon, between evenly rising mountain ranges on both sides. [1] ↑ museumslandschaft hessen-kassel. Object Type: painting.
