The left side of the composition, closed by a forest wall, is contrasted with the right side - an open landscape with a view of the burning wooden buildings of the village in the background. The sky is covered with heavy storm clouds and a plume of smoke from burning houses. The foreground is in shadow, the middle ground is accentuated with light.
