Vidi, quod aperuisset agnus - Luigi Sabatelli

Vidi, quod aperuisset agnus. . : the four horsemen of the apocalypse, saint john the evangelist seen beyond (revelation 6: 1-8) this and the following lot are preparatory studies for two of a series of seven etchings by sabatelli illustrating the revelation of saint john printed in milan in 1809-10 (b. Paolozzi strozzi, luigi sabatelli, disegni e incisioni, exhib. Cat. , florence, uffizi, 1978, nos. 62-68). The compositions were partly inspired by dürer's set of woodcuts of the subject and partly by tommaso puccini, a collector and print connoisseur who lived in florence. Date: 19th century.
