Veritas Temporis Filia, Jan Collaert II, 1612 (before)

Truth is the daughter of time; cronos, a bearded old man, winged and naked, bears aloft veritas, personified as a young, naked female, both airborne; veritas holds a drapery which is entwined about them both; below, invidia, or envy, personified by a winged female with snakes for hair, lies vanquished upon the ground, gnawing at her own heart; rocks form a backdrop behind the figures; below image, an inscribed cartouche upon a feigned wall engraving. Date: 1612 (before). Dimensions: Height: 248 mm; Width: 181 mm. Medium: paper. Depicted People: Kronos/Saturn. Collection: British Museum. Veritas Temporis Filia (BM 1957,0413.258)
