University of Copenhagen vestibule, Georg Hilker, circa 1850

The vestibule of the historic main building of the university of copenhagen (1844-53) features a prometheus cycle by constantin hansen. The central fresco, prometheus creating man in clay, depicts athena endowing prometheus' creation with reason. The fresco to the left shows apollo comforting prometheus, and the fresco on the right shows prometheus unbound by heracles. The frames and other wall decorations are by georg hilker (1807-1875). Date: circa 1850.
