Units of the Grand Fleet at Scapa Flow RMG PV3447, William Lionel Wyllie, 1917

Units of the grand fleet at scapa flow a finished watercolour, signed by the artist, lower right. The battleship on the right is the 'royal oak' (1914) with other r-class battleships beyond her. On the left are 'king george v'- or 'iron duke'- class battleships. The peaceful nature of the scene is emphasized by the presence of three dinghies under sail, fishing boats and fleet tenders. The date is 1917-18. There also appears to be a fragmentary or erased pencil inscription to left of the signature. Date: 1917. Dimensions: 284 mm x 429 mm. Collection: Fine art.
