Two mine vessels and an exploding mine RMG PV0040, William Lionel Wyllie, 1914

Two mine vessels and an exploding mine this appears to be a study of a controlled mine explosion, and the small vessels shown (with black hulls, ochre funnels and flying red flags) likely to be british army minelayers belonging to the royal engineers, who were responsible for the 'fields of observation' mines laid in the approaches to defended ports and harbours. Date: 1914. Dimensions: 235 mm x 140 mm. Collection: Fine art.
