Two Military Policemen, Niklas Stör, 1530

When lansquenets misbehaved, they could expect to have their collars felt by 'steckenknechten', the equivalent of military policemen. They made the actual arrests on the provost's orders if there was a breach of the peace. These men received double pay, but the lansquenets regarded their post as dishonourable. Date: 1530.
