Woodblock triptych print, oban tate-e. Scene from the production of the kabuki play 'kotoba no hana momiji no sakari', which was performed at the ichimura-za theatre in early 1849, showing an unidentified actor as kanto kurobei holding a fan with the boy kanda yokichi (left), seki sanjuro as hantoki kurobei (centre) wearing robes depicting scences of hell, and nakamura utaemon iv as honcho-maru tsunagoro (right), all standing before a bamboo fence around a temple. Date: 1849 8th lunar month.
