This is a rectangular detail of the irregularly cut drawing. Thomas vaux, 2nd baron vaux of harrowden, was a poet, the author of posthumous verses in tottel's miscellany, 1557. He served as captain of the isle of jersey. Holbein drew a later portrait of him. He also drew vaux's wife, lady elizabeth. Date: c. 1535–40.
