The Soga brothers practising swordstrokes on a heap of snow, Utagawa Kuniyoshi

Ichimanmaru and hakoōmaru, from the series twenty-four japanese paragons of filial piety (honchō nijūshi kō), woodblock print. This print represents jūrō and gorō practising swordsmanship on a mound of snow. They are preparing to revenge the murder of their father in which they succeed. Date: Tenpo 13-14 between circa 1842 and circa 1843.
