The dutch fleet getting under way off the coast
in the centre middle-distance, a starboard quarter view of a ship with flag at the main, getting under way; fore and mizzen topsails and main topgallant are loosed on the cap. A rear-admiral and other ships are in the left background. Land beyond. On the extreme left, a bezan yacht close-hauled on the port tack. In the right distance, several ships before the wind with their main topsails set. This is an unsigned pencil and wash drawing by the elder. It is a drawing which by its skilful use of wash might be by the younger, but the less skilful drawing of the ships in the distance suggests the work of the elder. The dutch fleet getting under way off the coast. Date: circa 1665. Dimensions: Sheet: 130 x 401 mm; Mount: 404 mm x 554 mm. Collection: Fine art.
