A monkey offers up a cup of tea, because this print was a new year gift in 1824, the year of the monkey. Silver foil, expensive paper, and high-quality dyes were used in the production of this special type of print, called surimono, which includes poems at the top. They allude to the fame and success that the year of the monkey will bring to the actor. The final line reads: his wealth and fame will increase abundantly, and his child adds to his popularity. "
