Small Reformation Woodcuts, by Hans Holbein the Younger

Small Reformation Woodcuts, by Hans Holbein the Younger

Small reformation woodcuts. These small prints relate to the dissolution of the monasteries during the english reformation. Figures in the pictures are depicted as monks, in less than flattering situations. The woodcuts were produced at a time when reformers satirised monks mercilessly. Clockwise from top left: christ before pilate, c. 1538–40, 4. 2 × 5. 9 cm, british museum, london. Date: 1530s, published from 1538 to 1548.
