Shono - Sasaki Takatsuna fording the Uji river, Utagawa Kuniyoshi

"shôno: sasaki shirô takatsuna", from the series "fifty-three pairings for the tôkaidô road (tôkaidô gojûsan tsui)". Takatsuna boasts that he will be the first to cross the river to confront the enemy, although samurai kajiwara leads the race, takatsuna outmarts him by shouting / look out, your horse s girth is loose/ thereby distracting him takatsuna win. Date: between circa 1845 and circa 1846.
