The auckward squad., Isaac Cruikshank, 1794

A young officer in back view tries to teach five lanky soldiers to present arms. They stand in different positions, holding their muskets in a variety of ways; one (right) aims his musket, turning his head away from the direction of fire. Behind is a hedge with a stile (right) leading to a country church. 19 february 1794. Hand-coloured etching. Date: 1794. Dimensions: Height: 250 mm; Width: 350 mm. Medium: paper.
