Seascape, Porthleven RMG BHC0032, John Everett, 1919

Seascape, porthleven a rapidly executed sketch showing the effects of waves close to the cornish coast at porthleven. It captures the fleeting nature of waves as the sea breaks on the shore and through colour and shapes the relationship between sea and sky. Following the end of world war i, everett went to helston in cornwall on 28 january 1919. He then moved to porthleven before renting a studio at sennen coven until 11 may. He remained there because of its good view of the sea. The painting is inscribed 'porth' verso. Seascape. Date: 1919. Dimensions: Painting: 252 x 357 mm. Collection: Oil paintings.
