Seascape RMG BHC0002, John Everett

Seascape RMG BHC0002, John Everett

Seascape a dramatic sketch of a seascape painted from the deck of a ship, looking towards an empty horizon. Everett has drawn particular attention to the vast expanse of sky. A bold use of line and colour distinguishes the dark sea from the lighter sky. A band of grey represents cloud close to the water and the sky is lemon yellow with slashes of pink. Using broad sweeps of white on top of the waves the artist has conveyed a feeling of rapidly changing weather conditions experienced at sea. Everett produced hundreds of similar rapid seascapes done on the spot, sometimes painted in quick succession. He was intent upon capturing the relationship and fleeting nature of light and the movement of waves in an ever-changing sea. It is signed with the artist's monogram bottom right. Seascape. Date: Late 19th century - mid 20th century. Dimensions: Painting: 252 x 354 mm. Collection: Oil paintings.
