Sankt Georgsberg 01, Georg Burmester, circa 1895

The church of st. George is the oldest in the lauenburg region. It was built around 1044. In 1060 the fieldstone church became a bishop's church. With the construction of the ratzeburg cathedral after 1170 the church lost its importance, and by 1230 the twelve parishes had been separated. In 1561 it was badly damaged by a fire and rebuilt. In 1569 a new bell was installed, which still rings at baptisms today. Date: circa 1895.
