henrick janszoon akkerman, former alderman and councilor of the city of amsterdam, went out in 1474 as captain of the amsterdam burgesses with some archers to assist charles the bold in the siege of the city of neuss. The city gate depicted is not one of the medieval gates but the 17th century utrechtse or weesperpoort. Illustration for: l.
