Figure 32 in paul schumann: dresden tournament race of the duke (later elector) august with fabian von schöneich on the altmarkt in 1545. Opaque painting by heinrich göding. Heinrich göding. The tournament system also leads us to a dresden painter of that time: heinrich göding. He was born in brunswick in 1531, came to dresden between 1550 and 1560, and was soon employed by the elector august, and was appointed his court painter in 1570. Not much of his major works in dresden have survived, in particular the sgraffito paintings in the stallhof, in which the court painter heinrich göding was heavily involved, have completely disappeared. However, three volumes of hand drawings on parchment, which are referred to as race and engraving books, have been preserved in the royal library in dresden. Two are copies of older tournament books - perhaps by lucas cranach -, the third depicts the races of elector augustus in 55 watercolors (63 x 23. 5 cm in size) in a lively depiction.
