Rowlandson - Portsmouth Poing, Thomas Rowlandson, 1811

"portsmouth point", an 1811 caricature by thomas rowlandson of riotous goings on at the portsmouth waterfront. At left an inebriated woman is being carried away; presumably she passed out as a result of the same type of carousings depicted near the center. At right (in the doorway of the "ship tavern"), a naval officer (note the sword he is wearing) kisses his wife as he is reunited with his family (the girl in a yellow dress running to him is presumably his daughter). The ship tavern flies the flag of england (not the flag of britain or the united kingdom). Date: 1811.
