The seven sacraments are arranged around a calvary, which is located here in the central aisle of a gothic church. An angel with a banderole in her hands floats above each sacrament. In the background of the central panel, a priest holds up a host during the consecration, repeating christ's sacrifice. The left panel depicts baptism, confirmation and confession. The right panel shows the priestly ordination, marriage and the anointing of the sick. The people in the center panel are larger than those in the side panels: they are more important and of a different order. Their colorful robes draw attention to the foot of the cross. As a contrast, two beggars can be distinguished between the columns. In the upper corners of the gold imitation frames are coats of arms: on the right that of the city of tournai and on the left that of the tournai bishop jean chevrot. Presumably he is portrayed in the bishop who administers confirmation. More than likely he was also the person who ordered the piece. Object Type: painting, triptych. Genre: religious art.
