Description r. W. Tadama announces, in amsterdam, peace and commitment with the french
on may 18, 1795 in amsterdam, the lawyer reinier willem tadama (1771-1812), lawyer at the court of holland, proclaims the treaty of alliance between france and the netherlands, concluded two days earlier in the hague. The event takes place on the nieuwmarkt near the waag; in the background you can see the geldersekade with the schreierstoren. Tadama was secretary of amsterdam from 1795 to 1798 and became the first agent (minister) of justice in 1798. Afterwards was a member of the moderate executive council.
