Print, satirical print, title-page, Romeyn de Hooghe, 1702

Title page to a tract entitled "de italiaansche waarzegger, esopus, antonio magino, en dirk rembrantz van nierop", no. 22 in the series entitled "esopus in europa"; in the centre, an etching showing aesop, a hunchback with a crutch, upwards to where louis xiv's chariot falls from the sky; this is also observed by the "italian wizard", an old man wearing thick glasses who holds up a prismatic glass, giovanni antonio magini, seen from the back, and dirck rembrandtz. Van nierop, using a cross-staff and holding dividers on a globe; beyond them three men are using a large telescope. On the left, behind, is a picture illustrating the fable of the old capon (louis xiv) who has hatched the eggs of a number of different birds, and is attacked by the (imperial) eagle. 1702 etching with letterpress printed in black ink.
