The crucifixion; centre, christ upon the cross, to the bottom of which is chained a skeleton and a dragon; christ is flanked by the good thief to the left, above whom angels hover, and by the bad thief to the right, above whom winged demons hover, a seated horseman below him; the holy maries and st john gather at the foot of the cross; to right, the soldiers cast lots for christ's cloak; in the foreground, stephaton prepares the sponge; ranks of soldiers seen beyond, and the city of jerusalem in the distance engraving.
