Picture book with pages with hand-colored lithographs and rhyming text, about pierrot growing up, getting into mischief and learning nothing at school. He goes to work for lord pantalon, meets comrade arlequin and colombine also appears on the scene, after which many adventures follow. Compared to another edition, it is striking that the drawings were made from the same design, but were re-engraved on stone. A striking difference is visible on the first plate of this copy, which depicts farmers as monkeys. 19 pages: hand-coloured lith // the reverse of the pages is unprinted // illustrator's name taken from nieuwsblad voor den boekhandel, 1862 // the last page contains the letters g. D. With a plate, no further signatures // f 1. 80
