"still life with quinces" is one of băncilă's paintings that reveals his concern for the transposition of immediate reality, for direct communication and the simplicity of suggestion, eliminating chromatic refinement and scholarly compositional construction in favor of a style that would be the symbol of strength and determination. The artist is not looking for the precious, refined atmosphere, but familiar objects from the household of the settled man, which he treats in a large and lively way. In his work, which does not so much intend to awaken aesthetic emotion as to awaken the viewer's thoughts, the painting shows concern for form, the charm of detail and bright colors. (ip)
