Mug with roses, oil on canvas, 29 × 23 cm, signed lower left, in ochre, "octav băncilă". Provenance: marie jeanne (diamandy) and nicolae bastaki collection. Marie jeanne was the daughter of ioana pallady from her marriage to constantin diamandy, romanian nobleman and diplomat, minister plenipotentiary in petersburg and later, the romanian ambassador in paris. Constantin diamandy had 3 children with ioana, born ghika: marie jeanne, magda and ion. Marie jeanne married neculai bastaki, an agricultural engineer educated in belgium, and her sister, magda, married emil sturdza and then george g. Assan, with whom she lived in the assan house in lahovary square, today the house of scientists. An art lover, marie jeanne began her collection under her father's guidance. Confiscated in the 1980s, in 2008, following the decision of 2006, the work is returned by the bucharest city museum to the heirs of the bastaki family.
