Speransky had been the first state secretary for the grand duchy of finland, and hence this version of the portrait contains special references to finland: speransky is leaning on a book called ”institutions of finland 1809–1812” (uchrezhdeniya finlyandyi) and on the left background is the cityscape of helsinki (including helsinki cathedral, which was completed after speransky's death).
