Medway August 9 1824 RMG PU7881, Henry Moses, 1 October 1824

Medway august 9 1824 print from moses' 'sketches of shipping', entitled 'medway august 9 1824'. Signed, dated and inscribed by the artist. Study of a medway boatman with a four-oared gig, its name 'hero' inscribed on the backboard of the passenger seat in the stern. Behind a two-decker warship lies moored 'in ordinary' (reserve) with her masts struck down, with a naval cutter alongside a wharf ahead of her - possibly the north end of chatham dockyard, though the exact topography is hard to reconcile. Medway august 9 1824. Date: 1 October 1824. Dimensions: Sheet: 193 x 277 mm. Collection: Green Blackwall collection.
