Elisa bravo jaramillo was on the brig the joven daniel, which had set sail from valparaíso on july 23 towards valdivia and which was shipwrecked near the mouth of the toltén river, on the beach of puancho, coast of cautín, area of lake budi. It happened on the night of july 31 to august 1, 1849; they blamed the mapuches for having kidnapped elisa, who would have survived the shipwreck and became the wife of the chief kurín or curín. Legend has it that the survivors set up camp on the beach, but were soon killed by indians. According to some modern historians, such as sergio villalobos, national history prize winner (chile), in reality, there is no evidence that there were survivors or that elisa had not perished and was effectively captive in araucanía (see border life in araucanía; the fragment about the shipwreck can be consulted on google books.
