The Martyrdom of Saint Catherine, Fernando Gallego

The Martyrdom of Saint Catherine, Fernando Gallego

The work represents the martyrdom of the virgin saint catherine of alexandria, who died for professing christianity, and the martyr appears naked and kneeling between the two cogwheels that three angels break. On the left appear the judge and his servants, while the four executioners are wounded. You can see a city and, in the distance, more buildings. A work of great expressionism, it has been thought that it could be the work of francisco gallego, fernando's brother and his regular collaborator (text extracted from the catalog of the paintings, museo del prado, madrid, 1996. Page 120). Object Type: painting. Genre: religious art. Date: 15th century. Dimensions: height: 125 cm (49.2 in); width: 109 cm (42.9 in). Medium: mixed technique on board. Collection: Museo del Prado. Martirio de Santa Catalina, por Fernando Gallego
