The tileries (study). In 1876 victor chocquet made his apartment available to claude monet. Located on the fifth floor of a building at 198, rue de rivoli in paris, it offers a bird's eye view of the tuileries garden which inspired monet to produce four paintings. The version at the marmottan monet museum is the most accomplished. It is distinguished by the balance of its composition. The mass of the marsan pavilion, on the left, and the horizon line placed very high delimit the framework devoted to the description of the french park. Ponds, flowerbeds, groves form the poetic framework which is completed by the regular layout of the pedestrian paths and the uninterrupted ordering of the sculptures. The palette of blond ocher and shades of green, blue and pink is reminiscent of that of en promenade near argenteuil and more generally the works of the mid-1870s. Object Type: painting, study. Date: 1876. Dimensions: height: 54 cm (21.2 in) ; width: 73 cm (28.7 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Musée Marmottan Monet. Monet-Tuileries-Marmottan
