Mistress of the house, dorothy, releases "marquis" an english mastiff, "o'brian" an irish wolfhound and "strafford" a lurcher: the dogs move in at speed, but make little headway. Another dog is released. Missing all the fun a fifth dog "shafto" a small bull terrier. . "mad with rage and jealousy. . " struggles to get free. Men with ropes, armed with scythes and pitchforks, recapture the panther. See also leopard-baiting.
