Portrait of mary, lady monteagle. Coloured chalks, pen and ink on pink-primed paper, 29. 8 × 20. 2 cm, royal collection, windsor castle. Mary brandon (c. 1510–before 1544) was the first wife of thomas stanley, 2nd lord monteagle. Notes on the drawing indicate a red damask dress and a red, white, and gold headdress. The intended effect might have been similar to that in holbein's miniature portrait of lady audley, painted at around the same time. The french hood suggests a date around the end of the 1530s.
