The marquise de pons, the chevalier de durfort and monsieur de marguerie, group portrait by henri félix emmanuel philippoteaux after a lost original by carmontelle made around 1760-1765. The three characters are close to the house of orléans: madame de pons, born anne claudine de mayneaud de la tour, was the wife of emmanuel de pons saint-maurice, governor of the duke of chartres, future philippe-egalité; jean-jacques de marguerie; louis-philippe de durfort, known as the chevalier de durfort
as attested by the journal of orders and acquisitions of paintings, sculptures and engravings (1831-1848) of the garde-meuble royal, on november 2, 1839, the painting was part of an order placed by louis-philippe in philippoteaux for four paintings (ns. 3911 and 3888-90) after carmontelle, intended to adorn the work cabinet of the sovereign's ministers at the castle d'eu, whose decor has now completely disappeared. Of the fifteen paintings that decorated this room, apart from this portrait, only four are located to this day; they are kept in museums (louvre museum, condé museum in chantilly and annecy museum of fine arts). Three individual watercolor portraits representing the marquise de pons, the chevalier de durfort and monsieur de marguerie remained in the collections of the orléans family (inv. M 21, 24 and 25). Two individual portraits, watercolored and gouache, depicting louis-philippe de durfort and madame de pons, by carmontelle, are now at the condé museum, in chantilly (inv. Car 66 and car 94).
